Changing View Round Three—Nomination Exhibition of Contemporary Ink and Water Art

Ink and water artwork, like any other kind of art, has a universal spiritual value that helps its development over time. Currently, we are now in a period where artistic language is evolving and artistic concepts have developed to the point where they are breaking through, and ink and water artwork is an important part of this process. A key part of the process to complete this transformation is when the artists construct and reorganize traditional ink and water artistic styles into their own signature style. These new styles create more possibilities and pluralism for the artists to imagine new way to utilize the ink and water artistic medium.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the modernization of traditional Chinese art language dominates the evolution of Chinese art , which has been heavily influenced by the Western art. The purpose of Changing View: Nomination Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Gongbi Art is to explore the new possibilities of the Gongbi style in representing traditional Chinese art with a contemporary twist.

On January 30, 2010, Dandeli Art Space sold Zhao Xiuhuan’s gongbi painting titled “Nine Peaches” to Mr. Qian Yaozhi, a partner of King & Wood PRC Law Firm, on an auction. The painting raised RMB 60,000 for the firm’s public interest foundation.

Dandeli Art Center Launches The Story of Youth: a group exhibition of young artists

Since its establishment in May 2008, Dandeli has been dedicated to discovering young art talents and supporting the development of young artists. In December 2009, Dandeli will showcase a group exhibition for Li Jun, Li Tingting, Zhang Jiedong, Liu Rui and Zhang Shanshan, five young and talented artists that we discovered in the past 20 months. All of these artists were born in 1980s and their works communicate their unique perspectives and art language. Dandeli expects that the audience could share their growing joy and pains at this exhibition.

On October 24, 2009, Dandeli Art Space will invite young musicians Xing Zhe, Xiao Yinqing and Xiao Yunzi to tell stories about Chiba and Guqin and play these two instruments in live. This performance will provide a good opportunity to understand traditional Chinese culture.

Chiba and Guqin are China's earliest pipe instrument and string instrument. Chiba is made of a piece of 55-centimeter long bamboo root. Guqin is made of seven silk strings and paulownia wood. On October 24, 2009, Dandeli Art Space will invite young musicians Xing Zhe, Xiao Yinqing and Xiao Yunzi to tell stories about Chiba and Guqin and play these two instruments in live. This performance will provide a good opportunity to understand traditional Chinese culture.
